Subject:Creation of a Protocol for Incident Notifications to the Town Manager/Staff and or Elected Officials

Recommendation:
The following notifications occurring within the Town of Miami Lakes (TML) will be made to the Town Manager and or his/her designee by the Police Major or his/her designee.

  • Robberies where the victim is shot, stabbed or transported to a hospital for treatment of injuries sustained during the robbery.
  • Discharge of firearm on-duty/off-duty by any law enforcement officer.
  • All contact and non-contact shooting incidents. This excludes shots fired in an area and there is no reporter.
  • Death, critical injury/hospitalization of any police officer, firefighter or TML employee. This excludes MDFR incidents not involving police response.
  • Car crashes resulting in a fatality or roadway closure for an extended period of time.
  • Car crashes resulting in serious damage to any TML property.
  • Fire event that causes death, critical injury, renders structure uninhabitable or causes permanent displacement of habitants.
  • Major police/fire response event causing prolonged disruption to Town operations or its residents. This includes incidents involving air rescue or Haz/Mat where police are notified.
  • Major events involving any state, county or municipal public servant or employee.
  • Any incident that is in the best interest of the TML.

I kindly ask the Town Manager to contact the Miami-Dade County Fire Rescue and to request a report to be given to the Director of Community Engagement and Outreach, setting the criteria for incident notifications regarding fire related services.

Fiscal Impact: Low
