I propose that we place on the November ballot a Charter Amendment that states as follows:
"All Proposed Amendments shall be placed on the ballot of the next regularly scheduled general election and must be approved by the 60% of those voting in that election".
The goal of this item is to look forward and insure that any proposed changes to our Town Charter are done in a manner that insures that the greatest number of citizens participate and that due to the significance of Charter changes, that they be approved by 60% of the vote so that long standing rights afforded to citizens or founding principles of the Town that are designated to stand the test of time, only be altered with a sizeable majority.
Of course, these items can be bifurcated in order to permit separate votes on each issue.
