Most recently, there has been a troubling pattern of drug related deaths of Miami Lakes residents, including the child of a dear friend of mine. I have long prioritized combating drug use in our community and have worked to implement proposals toward that end during my time on the council.

As seen in the Herald and other local papers, there has been an influx of modified, a.k.a "synthetic", drugs that have proven to be far more potent and even more dangerous than the regular version of the drugs themselves.

While drug prevention is always the first priority, I fully recognize that kids are not always going to stay away from drugs. I want to make sure that our children are aware of the dangers of these new synthetic drugs that are wreaking havoc in our community.

This is a common sense proposal to ensure that we educate the community not only on the dangers of drug use but especially the use of these synthetic drugs.
