In Florida, all elected municipal officers are required to receive four (4) hours of ethics-specific training. In line with the required ethics course, I would like to pass an ordinance requiring all newly elected Town of Miami Lakes officials to attend “an intensive academic program that will assist them in effectively meeting the requirements of their elected role.” I previously proposed an amended to the charter to incorporate good governance, the amendment to the charter did not pass as my colleagues and residents believed it was best to adopt as an ordinance.
